Youngstown State University will issue a press release Monday to announce George McCloud has been named vice president for university advancement. McCloud's previous title was special assistant to the president for university advancement.

The newly created position is meant to recognize McCloud's service to the university, said President David Sweet in the press release.

"This change in title is an appropriate and deserved recognition of his efforts," Sweet said.

McCloud has been with the university since 1997 and previously served as a professor, dean and special assistant to the president for public relations.

He overseas responsibilities such as events management and WYSU-FM, which were previously handled by the vice president of development and community affairs, which has been vacant since 2001.

In the release, McCloud said that he appreciated the recognition.

"I appreciate Dr. Sweet's expression of confidence in my work," he said.
