With an unusual name like Captain Braskey, a sound that has been compared to Incubus, Nirvana and A Perfect Circle, and a debut album release Friday, this band is ready to take Youngstown by storm.

Sophomore Andrew Bero, who plays guitar and sings lead vocals, describes how the band got it's name.

"We were drunk on Captain Morgan and were watching Will Ferell's character Bill Braskey, and we needed a name for our band, so we decided to put the two together," said Bero.

Captain Braskey was formed in the summer of 2005.

"At the time we were in another band and formed this band as a sort of side project, but it became the main band," said Bero.

Other band members include Dave Bero on bass and backup vocals and Charlie Warino on the drums. Both attended YSU and have since graduated.

Captain Braskey's sound, like their name, is unique.

"We play alternative rock. It's kind of grundgish, funkish, but mostly alternative rock," Bero said.

The band will be having their CD release party this Friday night at Barley's. The first band is set to perform at 8 p.m. and Captain Braskey will be the set of the night.

"We play once or twice a month around here," said Bero.

The band's next gig will be Dec. 21 at Barley's for a christmas show.

Currently, the CDs will be available at Captain Braskey shows and on the band's MySpace page.

Though their album will not be available at any stores for now, Bero said he can see them "slapping a barcode on the back and selling them at a CD warehouse" in the future.
