Fee n. "a fixed charge for a privilege or for professional services" vs. Tax n. "A charge against a citizen's person or property or activity for the support of government" So.. the YSU-SGA Fee or the YSU-SGA Tax? I'd say the word fee fits a bit better since this is a charge for a PRIVILEGE especially since its a FIXED CHARGE. You might say this is similar to dues.

Don't get me wrong, the editorial is valid in its logic. The students need to want this; but first they need to understand that its a fee, not a tax, that could potentially be apart of an already occuring 3% tuition hike.

The use of "fee" or "tax" is in the eye of the person being charged. To me, this is a tax. I'm a single mom going to school with a full-time job. I will not use this "tax." The usage of "fee" versus the usage of "tax" is just the politician's way of making something sound a lot better than it is.
