If the boys that got injured were white, it should be considered a hate crime. Agreed?

hahahahahahahaha!!!
Sarcasm? If yes, I enjoy your sense of humor.
If your serious just give back your degree from YSU, that was an ignorant comment.

If you think this is a "hate crime" the facts need to be set straight. It has nothing to do if it was a white or black issue, the guy approach nick many times, even though nick told him to go away, I think the guy instigated it, hoping nick will get kicked off and that guy's friend will take his spot. The other guy should get in trouble along with his friends because the jumped nick

Come on

Man its a college party fight. I guarantee you that the people that got beat up were swinging too but because they were less skilled fighters the football players are getting into trouble. If the four football players had got beat up then what would have happened??? It would have went down as a lost fight and thats it. When white people get beat up they take it to the police. All this is was a drunken college fight. It happens.

How sad that educated people can not see that violence is never the answer to any situation. It appears that our youth find alcohol, substance abuse and violence as a way to cope with their feelings and self worth. Regardless of race, religion, or gender violence is never appropriate. Real consequences need to be enforced here. Otherwise this behavior will escalate until a situation arises that nobody will be able to help these young men. Celebrity is not entitlement. Come On, regardless of who said what, violence is wrong.

OK, Bill, true violence is never the answer to anything. But in review of the "victims" interview, I find it hard to believe that he is totally innocent. I also find it hard to believe that he was not ALSO DRUNK or DRINKING and his "harmless" words were in fact very harmful. I just dont like how the Jambar interviews one side of the case. Lets be honest, I bet Kyle did not just say "hey guys im sorry I upset you it was only a joke" , And im sure he just stood there and didnt swing back or any of his 4-5 friends also just stood there and randomly got hit... Im just stating these "speculations" because only 1 side of story is given here which is not very fair to the defending party, so one could assume anything. I think both parties were in the wrong and Kyle doesnt need to be putting himself in situations like that and it wouldnt happen. Going to a college party to UNDERAGE DRINK is never a good sign, so lets not believe he is a total angel because thats BULL...Thanks

Well I don't think anybody has any right to judge college kids for drinking at a party. However,I think that both sides of the story need to be told. Basically what happened was Dearth made a joke about Goode keeping his spot against his friend. It was a joke that was probably in bad taste, but a joke none the less. Goode allegedly hit him after taking the joke as an insult. Kyle tried to stand up for Dearth and tried to stand up for him by confronting Goode, also probably not a smart move. All hell broke out from there, there were probably 30 people in the streets fighting. Kyle ended up in the hospital. I will not pass judgement on either party but I will come out now and say that James Craven was trying to break up the fight as many football players tried to do. I saw at least half of the players there trying to end the fight but a good 10-12 of them were part of the problem. At the end of the day it was a brawl that could have entirely been avoided, and its a shame because 3 people got hurt at what should have been a celebration of a good win. I hope it all gets worked out on both sides.

The article was poorly written. It implies that the football players are not students. It sounds like a guy ran off at the mouth and got beat up...what's the big deal? If you throw a party off campus and invite whoever, there's a real good chance of a drunken fight!

I think that this entire article is one sided. Did anyone check how much alcohol everyone was drinking, or only the football players? It's interesting how the victim "showed up at a party, made an innocent joke, and got beat up." Highly doubtful. I think it is terrible how Gooden and the other football players are getting all of the negative attention through the media and not getting to speak their peace on the entire situation. Fighting is never the answer, but in all fairness, everyone involved should be able to explain their side of the story. If the victim would have thought about the consequences of nagging people about a touchy subject that was elevated through drinking, this issue would have never happened. Kyle needs to learn when to keep comments to himself, I'm sure it was more than an innocent, "harmless" joke. If the other players were not willing to talk, then this article should have never went into print expressing only one side.

True this story is somewhat one-sided, but it's rather difficult to get the other side when they refuse to comment. Though at this point, that's probably in their best interest, and most likely what they've been instructed to do by team's legal consultants.

I think all who have commented have brought up some interesting points. But the thing that disappoints me is that these four football players, although they had been drinking, didn't consider one of the most important things. They represent the entity of YSU. The entire incident makes YSU look bad in my opinion. In some ways it makes me think that YSU isn't doing a very good job at not only picking players that are good but also people of character to represent their school. At some point these 4 guys should come forward, make a statment, and apologize to the school and the community. Whether it was their fault or not, I think they have a responisibility to do so.

I'm sorry, but players with good character and players that are good are mutually exclusive at a school like YSU. Players with good character and talent play at D1 schools.

Hate crime! are you serious! this is soooooo one sided if you gonna say a hate crime why they jus interview the WHITE guys and not get the other side from the BLACK guys. This is not a hate crime issue, its a situation where, people are playing telephone and the story gets twisted. What college guy at a party with friends with alcohol would go up to someone else and say "let's just talk this out" FOR REAL!! come on. The guy approach him too many times and just talking mess, after a while i prob would have hit him to shut him up too, so the guy ran out got his friends and they jumped nick so some fball guys pulled nick out and tried to break up the fight while others started to beat up the guy....so let's interview both sides, if the other side is not interviewed, then maybe yea i'll call it a racial hate crime
